Mount Erebus, an Antarctic volcano, emits gas containing about 80 grams of crystallised gold into the atmosphere every day.
This means that gold worth around Rs 5 lakhs is released for free from Mount Erebus every day.
The volcano is completely covered in snow and is located at a height of 12,448 feet.
The gas may contain other precious metals in addition to gold, according to scientists.
Even when Mount Erebus is blanketed with snow, its surface never freezes.
